In this talk, Prof. Lewis will speak about her work covering the China Initiative. This discussion will be moderated by Prof. Andrew Mertha, the George and Sadie Hyman Professor of China Studies, and the Inaugural Director of the SAIS Global China Research Center.
Prof. Margaret Lewis is a Professor of Law at Seton Hall University and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Her research focuses on law in China and Taiwan, with an emphasis on criminal justice and human rights. Her publications have appeared in academic journals such as Columbia Journal of Transnational Law, NYU Journal of International Law and Politics, Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law, and Virginia Journal of International Law. She is the co-author of the book Challenge to China: How Taiwan Abolished Its Version of Re-Education Through Labor (Berkshire Publishing and NYU School of Law, U.S.-Asia Law Institute, 2013).
Prof. Lewis received her J.D., magna cum laude, from the NYU School of Law, where she was inducted into the Order of the Coif and was a member of Law Review. She received her B.A., summa cum laude, from Columbia University and studied at the Hopkins-Nanjing Center for Chinese and American Studies in Nanjing, China.
